Wedding function
Also known as: Sagai Party, Engagement Reception
The engagement party is the celebratory evening that often follows the formal roka or ring ceremony, bringing both families together to mark the couple's commitment. Where the roka and ring ceremony carry the ritual weight, the party is the relaxed, joyful counterpart — dinner, music, speeches from close family, and the first real chance for the two sides to mingle. Guest numbers vary widely, from an intimate 40 to a few hundred for families who treat it as a scaled-down reception. Typical vendors include a venue or banqueting hall, caterer, decorator, photographer, and often a DJ. For many diaspora couples it doubles as the public announcement of the match.
